The concept is to cover the largest range of sails from a single boom. The 1st tailpiece extends 150-200cm, the second from 200-250cm.
Even on maximum extension, the boom maintains considerable stiffness as sufficient tailpiece tube remains inside the main tubes.
Solus tubing is now aerospace alloy 7075 - as seen on very high end bikes. Tubes are fully anodised for superior corrosion protection.
Brand new re-worked "New School" shape... developed to prevent the front arm from being over-stretched.
Better ergonomics: both arms are equidistant from the sail which helps develop a more natural body position while sailing.
The smooth rounded shape suggests a simplified construction... that of a single main body tube (monocoque construction). Weight and potential connection failures are both reduced.
The MK Carbon Pro II first used this clamp in 2009 and it has proved extremely robust, fast to rig and makes for a really solid mast connection (including skinny masts*).
Manufactured from a tough fiber-reinforced durable plastic, these clamps are capable of absorbing huge forces that protect both mast and the boom tubing from overload.
* (skinny mast adapters available separately).
From 2011, all MK booms are fitted with a new unbreakable twin-pin "super-lock".
...made from a combination of POM and nylon, this material prevents plastic fatigue as well as making them easier to operate.
Own a boom that uses this type lock? We are happy to supply these unbreakable locks regardless of brand.
"Boom arrived next day as promised - thanks. Looks the business, very solid and suprisingly stiff for an ally boom. (Peter Kris - Glasgow)
"...why are you the only one making this type of boom? It just solves all my boom problems in one go! Will you be making a carbon version? (Derek Pinter - Cambs)
"Huge improvement in stiffness over my last Ergo-Grip boom. Is this the same alloy 'cos it sure is stiff? (Chris Long - Sussex Uni)
